“Vegas is the best place to be, even when you get busted in a tournament” says 24-year-old Swedish poker player Martin Tano. “You can’t help but have fun in Las Vegas”
Martin was in Vegas at the 2015 World Series of Poker (WSOP) playing Event #28: MONSTER STACK $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em. He won his seat at Titan Poker’s Viva Las Vegas! super satellite on May 31st, an event which awarded 9 packages, each valued at €5,000.
Martin, who has been playing online poker for six year, has been a Titan Poker regular for the past year and plays with the nickname “Haukislayer”. He was in Vegas with his brother and a friend. This was Martin’s third visit to Las Vegas, but his first time playing a WSOP tournament.
“The Palazzo Hotel and the suite I got were amazing,” Martin says of the accommodations he received as part of the package. “It was very nice to also have a hospitality suite with free food and drinks!”
Playing with more than 7,200 players from all over the world didn’t intimidate Martin and he went on to finish the tournament in 65th place, winning a prize of $16,408. Martin’s finish was better than 99% of the players who started the event.
“I was playing among poker celebs and it was great,” Martin tells us. “I even had a nice hand against Scotty Nguyen, a five-time WSOP bracelet winner, in which I went all in pre-flop trying to bust him with ‘K-K’ in my pocket. Scotty turned over an ‘A-K’, and unfortunately for me he hit an ‘A’ on the flop and stayed in the tournament, but it was ok. I had a much bigger stack at that point than he did.”
At one time in the tournament, Martin had an impressive stack of 1,500,000 chips, massive when considering that each player started with 15,000 chips.
“By the end of the 3rd day, when the big blinds were 15,000 and the ante was 5,000, my stack (approximately 200,000 chips) left me no choice but to go all in with ‘A-9’. To my disappointment I got called from the small blind who held ‘A-K’. The ‘9’ didn’t come and so I busted.”
As sad as Martin was about getting eliminated, getting his paycheck made him feel a lot better.
“It was great that after I got busted around 20:00, I went back to the Palazzo Hotel to join my other friends from Titan Poker in a great party that was organized for us. As I entered the party that was already going, everyone in the V Club was clapping in my honor.”
As mentioned before Martin proved that if you get busted in a tournament the best place to do it is in Las Vegas. “I played some Roulette, learned the game of Craps, won some money playing cash games at the poker tables and in general I had a superb time.”
“No doubt that the most memorable moment of my Vegas experience was the WSOP tournament,” Martin says. “Entering the huge room, with poker tables and players as far as my eyes can see and the constant smooth sound of shuffling chips. These are things that are hard to explain with words.
“I would definitely try to get into another event like this in the future and I would recommend that every poker lover out there should try to win a great package like this at Titan Poker.”
