Facebook Freeroll Attracts 3,500 Players

It took only one hand of heads-up play for Croatian “lujopunks” to finish off his last remaining opponent in the $1,500 Facebook Freeroll that took place on Thursday night. The Croatian had a 4-1 advantage in chips over “Raisel” from Poland and he forced an all-in situation pre-flop holding pocket eights. The Polish player called with J 6 suited. The flop was Q 5 4, and when a third eight appeared on the turn, the Polish player’s only hope was to hit a seven on the river. The river was an unhelpful three, securing the win for “lujopunks”.

For his first place finish, “lujopunks” received $360, while second place was worth $225 for “Raisel”.

A record total of 3,500 players participated in the freeroll tournament, which was staged exclusively for Titan Poker’s Facebook fans to celebrate the New Year. The previous record participation in a Facebook freeroll was the iPOPS Live Facebook Freeroll in mid-November which attracted 3,379 players.

“Raisel” was chipleader when action reached the final table stage of Thursday's tournament. Eliminations were quick, as is the case in most freeroll tournaments, with “lvg59” from the Ukraine being the first to go when he failed to complete a flush against the kings held by Romanian “OvidiuPKR”. Next to go was German player “FlyingAce11”, who fell victim to “lujopunks” as the Croatian began to gather speed.

When action was four-handed, “Raisel” was still the chipleader. Holding A 9 suited, he raised and following two folds, “lujopunks” re-raised holding deuces. The Polish player made the call and the flop delivered three fives. There were no nines or aces on the turn or the river, so the Croatian’s full house held and he took the chip lead, only to win the tournament outright just a few hands later.

The entire tournament lasted just over 3 ½ hours. The freeroll was the last of Titan Poker’s long list of Facebook promotions in 2011 and there are plans for more exciting events for Facebook fans in 2012.
