Marvin RettenmaierHolding A K in his hand at the final table of the WPT Venice on a board of K Q 9, Team Titan’s Marvin Rettenmaier was sure that his top pair was good against Italian opponent Michele Caroli. Marvin bet and Caroli called. The six on the turn gave Marvin the confidence to bet again, and Caroli called again. The seven on the river should have wrapped it up for Marvin, but his all-in bet was again called.

Marvin turned over his A K to show the top pair, but Caroli turned over T 8. The players at the table were silent, not realizing for several moments that Caroli had hit a straight. According to the live update of the event, Marvin rose from the table and said, “That's the craziest thing I have ever seen at the poker table!"

Marvin’s finish in 8th place was good for a prize of $19,770. He had gone into Day 4 of the tournament as chipleader, well ahead of the remaining field of 15 players.

The WPT Venice cash in 8th place was the latest in Marvin’s string of small cashes during December. While he had busted out of the WPT Prague and EPT Prague Main Events, Marvin did manage to cash in a side event at each tournament.

Marvin finished in 14th place in the €1,000 No Limit Hold'em event at WPT Prague for a prize of $2,082. A few days later, he finished in 9th place in the €2,000 No Limit Hold'em event at EPT Prague. His prize was $12,572.

Marvin’s winnings for 2011 have now passed $825,000.
