“arturaso” wins the $2,234.50 Double Challenge Jackpot
On Friday night, “farfarfrom” from the Ukraine came close to winning both Double Challenge tournaments. In the first tournament, which attracted 74 players, “farfarfrom” finished in second place. In the second tournament, which started just five minutes later and drew 76 starters, “farfarfrom” finished in third place. For finishing in the top three places in both Double Challenge tournaments on the same night, the player from the Ukraine was awarded a $200 prize.
On Saturday night, 76 players started the first Double Challenge tournament at 21:35 GMT, and 68 players started the second tournament five minutes later. Playing in both of them was “arturaso” from Lithuania. The second tournament finished after two hours, while the first one lasted nearly three hours.
It took only four hands of heads-up play for “arturaso” to knock out “BaracusA” from Russia. The Russian started the one-on-one competition with a 2-1 lead in chips, but this changed on the second hand, when “BaracusA” failed to complete his straight and “arturaso” moved ahead with two pairs, aces and deuces. In the final hand, “arturaso” formed a pair of kings on the flop, enough to beat the Russian’s pocket tens. The first Double Challenge victory was his.
In the second tournament, the one that had actually started earlier, the final opponent standing in the way of a Double Challenge jackpot was “silentbober” from Russia. This time, heads-up was a prolonged match that lasted for 139 hands. The Russian player started with a 4-1 advantage in chips, so winning required an extensive grind by “arturaso” until he finally won the tournament with a pair of nines.
With his $2,234.50 prize for winning both tournaments, “arturaso” has been added to the record books as the 11th player to win the Double Challenge Jackpot.
In January, German player “engel1508” won both Double Challenge tournaments and received a record $5,795.50 prize.
