Matt Kay is on fire - ECOOP III and IV winning streak

June 11 2009

Titan Poker player Matt Kay has yet another ECOOP victory under his belt.

“The main thing that I really like about the ECOOP series… is that I win events”, laughed Matt after his latest ECOOP IV #1 ($250,000 GP) victory. “That must explain why it is my favourite online tournaments series. Basically, the guarantees are great, the payout structures are perfect, and the variety of events are good”, Kay proclaimed.

Matt has been playing poker for about 4 years online. He started playing at home with friends while he was in high school. “It was just for fun… very small stakes but I wanted to be the best of my friends and win. So I started playing online. In January of 2007 I paid $215 to enter a tournament and earned myself a $200k prize, and from that point on I just kept winning,” Matt told us.

When he was asked about a memorable moment from his ECOOP IV #1 victory, Matt told us the following story: “I had been very aggressive around the bubble, which had just broken and I had shoved over a raise of the last hand right before this happened. I raised 4500 @ 1000/2000 in the CO and both the SB and BB called. I had QK. The flop was Q 9 3 rainbow. The guy in the SB led out 10k. My thought process was very fast for this hand as I wanted him to think I was weak. I thought his lead out was weak, and I know I had been really aggressive. He had 54k to start the hand, I had 110k. As soon as it got to be my turn, I instantly shoved over (this is a pretty big shove). I figured since I had been so aggressive he might just get fed up and call light thinking that I was just making a move. They immediately called with 66. I did not think I would get called THAT light, but it was an awesome hand and a really big pot. I was in 1st before this hand, so afterwards I had a huge lead with about 80 left.”

Matt does not think that he used a unique strategy to take the ECOOP tournaments. “I just played my normal poker game, and made a few adjustments. I've developed a style that works really well on Titan Poker and when it is combined with a little luck, it has helped me do very well on Titan Poker over the past 6 months”, he stated.

It is definitely skill and not luck that has catapulted Matt Kay into the big winnings. Our feeling at Titan Poker is that we have not yet heard the last of him.
