November 2009
Jan Bjoersland traveled to Malta to represent the Titan Team at the ECPokertour event. Things did not turn out for him as he had expected.
Day 1 - November 13th
Unfortunately this is going to be a short posting. I was hoping for a long story as a new and proud member of the Titan Poker Team, where I could enlighten you with my success at the tables in Malta, but this was not the outcome of the €1,500+€80 Main Event.

We started off with 10,000 chips and blinds at 25-50. I didn't get any cards in the first hour. Some small pairs, but no hit on the flop and a one failed bluff on the river "crippled" me down to 7500. Then the blinds increased to 50-100 and nothing really happened at this level either so when we came to the third level (75-150) I think I played the worst hand I've ever played as a poker player. I was in seat number 5 and the guy next to me raised to 400 and I called with AQ off suit. The flop came Q 9 8 rainbow and he lead out with 600. I put him on QJ or QK and made it 2,000 to play. He then announces "all in" and I had been digging my own grave. I should have folded instantly leaving me with 5,000 chips to play with, but I have no idea of why I decided to call. I lost connection with my brain. He turns over 10 J for a straight and that was the end of the Main Event in Malta. I am really disappointed by the way I played that hand.

The side event (€150+€20) was also a short story. It started with 4,000 chips and blinds 25-50 with 30 minute levels. In level 1 I picked up QQ in the Big Blind. Four guys limped and I made it 250 to play. One guy calls and the flop is: Q 9 2 rainbow. Dream flop with my queens. I check and he checks as well. The turn is a deuce of spades. No danger there. I bet 400 and he calls. The river is a 8s. I get a bad feeling when the jack hits the board and choose to check. The other guy bets 500 and I call just to find out that he picked up a straight with 10J. There was also three spades on the board. In level 3 with the blinds at 100-200 I have 2,100 chips and pick up 99 on the button. Cut off raises to 450 and I push all in, and get called by AJ...and a J on the turn takes care of my exit!
Hopefully I will do a lot of better in the upcoming event representing the Titan Team.
