WPT Venice 2009 Blog
Day 1
This was another nice tournament. It took place in a beautiful location, there were 400 entrants and it was well structured.
My Initial stack was 15,000 chips. I got off to a good start. By the third level my initial stack had more than doubled and I had around 35,000 chips. This was well beyond the average 17/18 Ks.
There were some ups and downs and an unlucky blow that did not allow me to end the day well. It came in the following hand where I lost more than 50Ks.My hand is A Q, my opponent’s A 10. He draws a very lucky 10 at the river. I end the day in 99th position. My final stack is 24,650.

Day 2
We start again with 152 players. After a series of ups and downs I get as high as 90Ks. There are now 72 players remaining and 45 awards. I suffer a bad blow. In the decisive part of the tournament, an opponent, short stack, nails a color at the river There are 53 players still in play.
At this point, my short stack is 37K. The blinds are 1500-3000. I needed a double up. A few hands later, I am at the button with a suite J 10. I go for a blind and am called from a small blind of A A. I only remember that the flop was a J and nothing more so I sadly dropped out. I really thought that I had a chance to get an award and play at the final table before that incredible color at the river.
Nevertheless, I am happy because I wanted to gauge myself against the best players and frankly, except for some of the rare ones like McDonald, Minieri, Pagano, and a few others, I realized that the level of my game has grown and I can play in many tournaments. I also saw that there were many bad players who participated. In the end, as usual, Lady Luck really makes all of the difference. In the future, I sincerely hope to have some good results because I feel I have what it takes to be successful.
